Baseball Recap: Chapel Hill Snags Third Win in Last Four Games

Chapel Hill barely beat Northern Durham the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Tigers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Knights a 10-0 shutout on Friday. The Tigers not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since March 14th (when they won 10-0).

Not much got past Doug McLaren, who gave up just three hits to keep Northern Durham off the board. McLaren has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Chapel Hill let James Staats and Austin Campos run wild. Staats went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Campos went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Chapel Hill is 5-1 when Campos posts two or more stolen bases, but 4-5 otherwise. Jason Krieg was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Chapel Hill always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .586. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Chapel Hill has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games.
