The Surry County Cougars will head out on the road to challenge the West Point Pointers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Surry County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.

Surry County made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Greensville County, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Cougars fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 10-8 last Thursday.

Whitney Griffin was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over 4.2 innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and five RBI. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game.

In other batting news, Adalynn Swanner was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs. Those stolen bases were her first of the season.

Meanwhile, West Point was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against King William, falling 13-1.

Surry County's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for West Point, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.
