The Foothill Falcons will head out to challenge the California Grizzlies at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The last three games Foothill has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Foothill is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They never let Castro Valley get on the board and left with a 2-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Falcons in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won nine in a row.
The result came thanks to Myra Galzie's shutout, as she gave up just four hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ellie Novitske, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI. Brea Olsen was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI.
Foothill always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Castro Valley only posted an OBP of .308.
Meanwhile, California got the win against Bishop O'Dowd on Wednesday by a conclusive 10-4. The Grizzlies might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matchups by six runs or more this season.
Gabriella Nudo looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Jayda Crosby and Hailey King did most of the damage at the plate: Crosby went 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while King went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave King a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Golde, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one double.
California has been performing well recently as they've won 12 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.9 runs over those games. As for Foothill, their record now sits at 14-8-1.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Foothill hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .373. However, it's not like California struggles in that department as they've averaged .397. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
