Basketball Game Preview: McDonough Rams vs. La Plata Warriors

The McDonough Rams will challenge the La Plata Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

McDonough is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 77-31 victory over Patuxent. The Rams have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 20 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, La Plata won against Calvert on Friday with 78 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. La Plata beat Calvert by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 78-32. Winning may never get old, but the Warriors sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

La Plata found their leader in sophomore Corey Collins, who went 8-for-14 en route to 20 points and five steals. The game was Collins' third in a row with at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Karon Allen, who posted ten points and seven assists.

La Plata's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-11. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.3 points over those games. As for McDonough, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 14-9.

Everything went McDonough's way against La Plata when the teams last played back in January, as McDonough made off with a 74-54 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was La Plata's McKinley Harrold, who scored 17 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will McDonough still be able to contain Harrold? There's only one way to find out.
