Preview: Point Arena Pirates vs. Round Valley Mustangs

Point Arena has been on the road for two straight, but on Tuesday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Round Valley Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Point Arena's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five contests.

In what's become a running theme this season, Point Arena gave their fans yet another huge victory on Saturday. They claimed a resounding 70-30 victory over Calistoga on the road. With Point Arena ahead 41-15 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Point Arena relied on the efforts of Derek Billy, who scored 20 points along with nine rebounds and two steals, and Fernando Lopez, who shot 9-for-14 from downtown and dropped a double-double on 27 points and 11 rebounds. Lopez is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Tosh Mouton was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with 11 rebounds and two steals.

Even though Round Valley has not done well against Mendocino recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Round Valley came out on top against Mendocino by a score of 50-38. The win was just what Round Valley needed coming off of a 86-43 loss in their prior matchup.

Point Arena pushed their record up to 10-5 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 43.67 points. As for Round Valley, they now have a winning record of 6-5.

Everything came up roses for Point Arena against Round Valley in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 as the squad secured a 86-43 win. Does Point Arena have another victory up their sleeve, or will Round Valley turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
