Football Game Preview: Rockdale Tigers vs. McGregor Bulldogs

The Rockdale Tigers will take on the McGregor Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Rockdale has given up an average of 36.2 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Rockdale is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Little River Academy on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Tigers took a blow against the Bumblebees, falling 55-21. The defeat continues a trend for the Tigers in their meetings with the Bumblebees: they've now lost five in a row.

Despite the loss, Rockdale got top-tier performance from Deandre Stephens, who picked up 165 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Stephens' longest reception was for an incredible 81 yards. Greyson Williams was another key player, throwing for 217 yards and two touchdowns.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for McGregor, who bounced back after a loss on the road back in September. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past C.H. Yoe 20-17.

Rockdale better focus on containing Bubba Zacharias and Isaiah Jones as the pair were huge in McGregor's win. Zacharias rushed for 44 yards and one TD, while Jones rushed for 58 yards and one score on only six carries.

McGregor's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Edward DeHoyos, Quincy Glasson, and Devin Gripp, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Rockdale's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for McGregor, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.

Rockdale might still be hurting after the 49-28 loss they got from McGregor when the teams last played back in October of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Zacharias, who rushed for 37 yards and four touchdowns, and also threw for 248 yards and one TD. Now that the Tigers know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
