Preview: Valentine vs. Cozad Haymakers
Valentine will be playing at home against the Cozad Haymakers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Valentine focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Friday.
Last Friday, Valentine was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 45-39 to Broken Bow. Valentine has struggled against Broken Bow recently, as their game on Friday was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Valentine had strong showings from Paige Sprenger, who scored ten points along with two steals, and Kinsey Buechle, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds.
Cozad posted their biggest win yet this season on Thursday. They put the hurt on Lexington with a sharp 46-26 win. The win was just what Cozad needed coming off of a 45-25 loss in their prior contest.
Valentine bumped their record down to 6-8 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.4 points per game. As for Cozad, their win bumped their record up to 5-11.
Valentine beat Cozad 31-22 in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Will Valentine repeat their success, or does Cozad have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
