Baseball Recap: High Point Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Victory

High Point came tearing into Wednesday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Laurel Spartans get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by ten runs or more this season.

Yojancel Soto made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. Those 14 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.

In other batting news, High Point let Elinzon Ruiz and Keysi Matos run wild. Ruiz went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Matos went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryan Perez, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

High Point always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Laurel only posted an OBP of .118.

High Point's win bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Laurel, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.
