Basketball Game Preview: Brighton Bulldogs vs. Erie Tigers

The Brighton Bulldogs will square off against the Erie Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Brighton knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 14 games -- so hopefully Erie likes a good challenge.

Brighton is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. Everything went their way against Northglenn on Tuesday as Brighton made off with a 93-71 victory. With the Bulldogs ahead 48-27 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Meanwhile, Erie had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 70-41 win over the Cougars. That 29 point margin sets a new team best for the Tigers this season.

Erie's win came from a few key players Brighton will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Callen Gebhardt, who went 5-for-9 en route to 14 points in addition to seven assists and five rebounds. He is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last five games he's played. Christopher Smith was another key player, putting up 11 points and six steals.

Erie was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Erie pushed their record up to 12-9 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.8 points over those games. As for Brighton, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season.

Brighton was taken down by Erie 68-38 in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can Brighton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
