Softball Recap: Holcomb Takes a Loss

Holcomb extended their losing streak to seven on Monday, dropping them down to 2-7. They fell 7-3 to the Spearville Royal Lancers. The Longhorns were not able to make up for their loss to the Royal Lancers from their previous meeting back in April of 2025.

Holcomb saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Katie Stagner, who went 1-for-2 with two runs.

As for Spearville, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games.

On Spearville's side, Cheyenne Ackerman made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Ackerman was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Morghyn Rucker, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Makiah Kliesen, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Spearville beat Holcomb by a score of 21-6 later that day.
