Recap: Mayfield Panthers vs. Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville Wolves
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Duanesburg, the Mayfield Panthers were happy to have found some success on Tuesday. They came out on top against Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville by a score of 72-60. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Leading Mayfield to victory were Cloey Dopp and Brianna Iannuzzi. Dopp scored 27 points along with seven assists and five steals, while Iannuzzi scored 26 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Iannuzzi has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Abigail Chest, who scored six points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Brooke Trumble, who scored 19 points along with seven assists and three steals. Trumble has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 17 times she's played. Sydney Hazzard was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Mayfield now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville, their loss dropped their record down to 8-11.
Mayfield will square off against Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Mayfield surely won't give up without a fight. Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
