Basketball Recap: Callie Craven's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Eastern Randolph over Uwharrie Charter Academy

Eastern Randolph lost against Uwharrie Charter Academy back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Eastern Randolph Wildcats lost 49-23 to the Uwharrie Charter Academy Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 429th, while the Eagles are ranked 141st).

Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Callie Craven, who posted seven points and four steals. Craven is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in the last three games she's played.

Even though they lost, Eastern Randolph smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Nevaeh Staples continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Uwharrie Charter Academy, putting up eight points in addition to nine blocks and five boards. The dominant performance gave Staples a new career-high in blocks. Another player making a difference was Naimah Al-Arif, who earned eight points along with eight rebounds and three steals.

Eastern Randolph has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season. As for Uwharrie Charter Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won 14 of their last 17 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season.

Coming up, Eastern Randolph will welcome Trinity at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Eastern Randolph is facing Trinity at the right time seeing as Trinity is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Uwharrie Charter Academy, they will head out to challenge Southwestern Randolph at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Southwestern Randolph comes in on 22 and Uwharrie Charter Academy on three.
