Preview: Perquimans Pirates vs. Lakewood Leopards
Perquimans has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the Lakewood Leopards at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
With a playoff game on the line, Perquimans rose to the challenge on Friday. They claimed a resounding 40-6 win over East Columbus at home.
Perquimans' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Braylon Knapp, who threw for 255 yards and three touchdowns while completing 72.2% of his passes. Benjamin Brown also helped out with an impressive 141 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Lakewood was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Northwest Halifax 60-16 at home. The win made it back-to-back wins for Lakewood.
Lakewood's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nakai Owens led the charge by rushing for 83 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries, while also catching a touchdown. Calvin Lacewell also helped out as he racked up 100 rushing yards.
Perquimans' victory bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Lakewood, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season.
