Volleyball Recap: Vail Christian Comes Up Short

If Vail Christian was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Addenbrooke Classical Academy on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Saints fell just short of the Denver Waldorf Spartans by a score of 3-2 on Saturday. The Saints were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Spartans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Vail Christian was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Denver Waldorf work for it, especially in the first set. The match finished with set scores of 28-26, 22-25, 25-17, 22-25, 15-12.

When it comes to explaining why Vail Christian lost, don't look at Justin Nguyen. Despite the final result, he had 30 digs. With that strong performance, Nguyen is now averaging an impressive 10.6 digs per game. The team also got some help courtesy of JT Tena, who had 13 digs.

Avery Monden went supernova For Denver Waldorf., getting 21 digs and two assists. Those 21 digs gave Monden a new career-high. Kelly Goodwillie also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Vail Christian now has a losing record of 7-8. As for Denver Waldorf, their win bumped their record up to 9-1.

Vail Christian didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 3-0 victory against Alameda on the 23rd. As for Denver Waldorf, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-0 win against Addenbrooke Classical Academy on the 21st.
