Volleyball Recap: St. Mary's Spartans vs. Salem Witches

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Arlington Catholic, St. Mary was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Salem Witches. The victory was some much needed relief for the Spartans as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

St. Mary's wouldn't go down easily and took Salem into a fifth set where they got it done with a four-point win. The final score came out to 24-26, 25-23, 25-15, 20-25, 15-11.

Despite the defeat, Salem saw an underclassman step up: Yanalis Ventura had 39 digs. Those 39 digs set a new season-high mark for Ventura.

St. Mary's win bumped their record up to 4-7. As for Salem, their loss was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-10.

St. Mary's will play host again on Friday to welcome Cathedral, where the match is scheduled at 5:00 p.m. As for Salem, they will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Winthrop at 6:00 p.m.
