The Highlands Ranch Falcons will head out to take on the Grandview Wolves at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
It was a Battle of the Birds when Highlands Ranch challenged Highland on Saturday. Highlands Ranch came up short against Highland, falling 10-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Falcons have suffered since April 29, 2024.
Highlands Ranch saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Garrett Williams, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. That triple marked the first that Williams hit this season. Another was Ayden Wells, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Grandview waltzed into their game on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They were the clear victors by a 16-9 margin over the Lightning. The Wolves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matches by seven runs or more this season.
Chase Chapman made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Chapman was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kyler Vaughn, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Kayden Bohmeyer was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one RBI.
Grandview was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .382 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Grandview's record now sits at 4-1. As for Highlands Ranch, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Highlands Ranch hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. However, it's not like Grandview struggles in that department as they've averaged .397. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Highlands Ranch came out on top in a nail-biter against Grandview in their previous meeting back in April of 2018, sneaking past 7-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for Highlands Ranch since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
