Baseball Recap: Honey Grove Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Honey Grove, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They skirted past the Tom Bean Tomcats 4-2. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Tomcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Brody Mahan made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.

Mahan wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jarrmez Daniels, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2. Honey Grove is undefeated when Daniels posts two or more runs, but 3-6 otherwise.

Honey Grove's win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Tom Bean, they moved to 7-4 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, Honey Grove will face off against Ector at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Ector has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.86 runs per game on average), something Honey Grove will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Tom Bean, they will square off against Collinsville at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Collinsville 3, Tom Bean 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
