Basketball Game Preview: West Craven Eagles vs. Lawrence Academy Warriors

The West Craven Eagles will challenge the Lawrence Academy Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. West Craven has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with seven straight defeats, while Lawrence Academy will come in with three straight wins.

Last Thursday, West Craven ended up a good deal behind SouthWest Edgecombe and lost 65-50. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 452nd, while the Cougars are ranked 79th).

Meanwhile, Lawrence Academy hadn't done well against Ridgecroft recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Lawrence Academy slipped by Ridgecroft 71-70.

The match pitted two dominant guards against one another in Nike Wiggins and Antron Gray. Wiggins had a solid game and posted 21 points and six assists. Meanwhile, Gray was balling out in the loss, going 9 for 18 en route to 22 points along with seven assists and five boards.

Lawrence Academy pushed their record up to 10-8 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.7 points per game. As for West Craven, their loss dropped their record down to 3-10.
