Suburban - Blue recap September 24, 2013
Raytown South moved up to 115 from 154 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Suburban - Blue. The Cardinals were able to move up by besting Central 26-24.
Kearney was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after besting Liberty North. The Bulldogs came in at 25 in the state poll after placing at number 45 last week.
Platte County's dynamic duo of Tyler Cooper and Aliek Reed proved to be unstoppable against Grandview, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Cooper threw for 165 yards and 2 touchdowns and Reed had 78 yards receiving. Jordan Branson helped Platte County's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 41 yards.
The Pirates' dynamic duo of Cooper and Reed proved tough for the Bulldogs to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Brock Broughton was a passing and rushing force as Kearney topped the Eagles. Broughton's key target this week was Coalten Klenda, who caught 4 passes for 49 yards.
Broughton was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 235 yards on 30 carries as Greg Jones' team beat Grandview. Teammate Austin Hinck added to the ground attack by rushing for 16 yards.
Cooper put up the best numbers through the air as Bill Utz's team topped Steve Robertson's team.
Reed was the best wideout in the league this week as the Pirates beat the Bulldogs.
Broughton was a beast in the backfield as the Bulldogs bested Liberty North.
On the heels of Hinck and Broughton, Kearney has had great success on offense. Hinck leads the league in passing with 814 yards, while Broughton has rushed for 738 yards this season. Platte County's Reed leads the league in receiving yards with 310 on 13 catches.
The Bulldogs' offense has recorded 175 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while the Pirates have permitted only 48 on the year.
One of Suburban - Blue's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when Kearney and Platte County face off next week.
Next week's game between the Bulldogs and the Pirates will feature a good passing match up as Hinck will test his arm against Justin Mitchell's defensive ability.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Kearney takes on Platte County. As it stands, the Bulldogs are in third, while the Pirates are in second.
There should be lots of points scored when Kearney and Platte County face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Bulldogs comes in having scored 175 this season, while the Pirates have scored 117. Kearney scored 26 points last week as it defeated Ken Clemens' team.
The Bulldogs and the Eagles played the closest game in the league this week, with the Bulldogs eventually emerging with a 26-25 victory. Broughton caught 5 passes for 26 yards in the win.
