Basketball Recap: Rocky Mount Comes Up Short

Rocky Mount has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. The match between them and the Franklinton Red Rams didn't end well, with the Rocky Mount Gryphons falling 63-46. The Gryphons were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Red Rams earlier this season, when they won 65-62.

When it comes to explaining why Rocky Mount lost on Tuesday, don't look at Anthony Jones. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten boards. Jones is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last 24 games he's played dating back to last season. Semaj Parker was another key player, putting up ten points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Rocky Mount smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds every time they've taken the court this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Franklinton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Chan Thomas, who posted 11 points along with six boards and three steals. The dominant performance also gave Thomas a new career-high in blocks (two). Another player making a difference was Jamel Tabron, who earned eight points and six rebounds.

Rocky Mount's loss dropped their record down to 13-6. As for Franklinton, their win bumped their record up to 10-13.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rocky Mount will host Northern Nash at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Northern Nash's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 11 games. As for Franklinton, they will be playing at home against Southern Nash at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
