Volleyball Recap: Marissa Sloan's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Victory Christian over Matthews Christian Academy

Victory Christian was the 3-1 winner over Matthews Christian Academy when they last played one another back in October of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Cardinals fell 3-1 to the Colts on Friday.

While Victory Christian had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 18 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 25-23, 17-25, 25-23.

Several Cardinals players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Marissa Sloan, who had eight digs, seven blocks, six kills, and two aces. Another player making a difference was Olivia Smith, who had 15 assists and five aces.

Victory Christian's loss dropped their record down to 10-5. As for Matthews Christian Academy, their victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-2.

Coming up, Victory Christian will challenge Victory Christian Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cardinals are facing the Patriots at the right time seeing as the Patriots are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Matthews Christian Academy, they have already played their next match, a 3-0 win against Abundant Life Christian Academy on the 3rd.
