Baseball Game Preview: Aldine Mustangs vs. Westfield Mustangs

We've got a battle between Mustangs coming up. The timing is sure in Aldine's favor as the squad sits on ten straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Westfield has been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road also dating back to last season.

On Saturday, Aldine narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past MacArthur 5-4.

Jansyel Barbosa made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Barbosa wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Julian Velez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Another was Orlando Reyes, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Westfield scored first but ultimately less than Nimitz in their contest on Saturday. They lost 9-3 to the Cougars.

Aldine's victory bumped their record up to 11-3. As for Westfield, their loss dropped their record down to 2-14.

Westfield's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Aldine hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .350. It's a different story for Westfield, though, as they've only averaged .202. Will they be able to contain Aldine's hitters?

Aldine beat Westfield 7-2 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Does Aldine have another victory up their sleeve, or will Westfield turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
