Volleyball Recap: Nikiski Bulldogs vs. Valdez Buccaneers
With a playoff game on the line, Nikiski rose to the challenge on Saturday. They skirted past the Valdez Buccaneers 3-2. Winning may never get old, but the Bulldogs sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Nikiski had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 19-25, 18-25, 25-20, 25-20, 15-11.
Ashlynne Playle paced Nikiski's offense, picking up 12 kills. Playle got some help from
Avery Ellis and her 25 assists.
Nikiski has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 40-19-7 record this season. As for Valdez, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 39-15-3.
Nikiski has already played their next match, a 3-0 victory against Kenai Central on the 16th. Valdez does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
