Baseball Recap: Varela Has No Trouble Against Dade Christian

Varela had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Dade Christian on Friday. The Varela Vipers put the hurt on the Dade Christian Warriors with a sharp 12-2 victory. That looming 12-2 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Vipers yet this season.

Luis Sosa made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other pitching news, Andy Espinoza looked comfortable as he struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits.

Back at the plate, Varela let Jonathan Paniagua and Alexander Gonzalez run wild. Paniagua got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and two runs, while Gonzalez went 2-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that Paniagua launched this season. Tyler Rodriguez was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Varela was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .381. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.

Varela pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.2 runs over those games. As for Dade Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.

Varela wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 2-0 loss against Braddock on the 25th. As for Dade Christian, they have also already played their next matchup, an 11-1 defeat against Miami Christian on the 26th.
