Baseball Recap: Stark County Rebels vs. Midland Timberwolves

Stark County extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 5-11 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Midland Timberwolves. The Rebels were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Timberwolves apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Stark County saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Connor Daum, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

As for Midland, they pushed their record up to 9-7-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games.

On Midland's side, Dom Rosa was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. Rosa has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases and one RBI. Midland is 4-1 when Rosa posts two or more stolen bases, but 5-6-2 otherwise.

In other batting news, Owen LaRoe was excellent, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Stark County will venture away from home to challenge Peoria Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Midland, they will head out to face off against Princeville at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
