Softball Recap: Greenfield Takes a Loss

Greenfield fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Frontier Regional on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Red Hawks by a score of 6-5. The Green Wave were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Red Hawks earlier this season, when they won 17-4.

MacKenzie Paulin was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She struck out 15 batters over eight innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Gloria McDonald made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Bianca Reynolds, who went 1-for-5 with one home run and two RBI.

Greenfield's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-4. As for Frontier Regional, they pushed their record up to 9-4 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Greenfield will welcome Northampton at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Frontier Regional, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Wahconah Regional at 4:00 p.m.
