Baseball Recap: New Castle Drops Season-High Score on Laurel

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask New Castle). Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Laurel Spartans a 10-0 shutout on Saturday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Hurricanes considering their two-run performance the match before.

Carlo DeSalvo looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because New Castle is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 0-5 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Paul Malley was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Domenick Filippone, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

New Castle's victory bumped their record up to 2-6. As for Laurel, they dropped their record down to 3-5 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. New Castle will welcome Taylor Allderdice at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Laurel, they will be playing at home against Freedom Area at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.89 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of.
