Softball Game Preview: Deep Creek Hornets vs. Currituck County Knights

The Deep Creek Hornets will challenge the Currituck County Knights at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Deep Creek turned things around against Nansemond River on Thursday. They blew past the Warriors 11-4.

Bailey Cockrell and Izzy Shollenbarger did most of the damage at the plate: Cockrell scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4, while Shollenbarger scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. That's the most runs Shollenbarger has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Hannah Liddell, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Currituck County got themselves on the board against Holmes on Friday, but Holmes never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Aces with a sharp 10-0 victory. The Knights haven't had any issues with the Aces recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Kaydence Hassell made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Hassell was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Morgan Eisel was a standout: she went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Kendra Daniels was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

Currituck County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .476. They are 7-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Deep Creek now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Currituck County, their victory bumped their record up to 8-6.

Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Deep Creek hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .354. However, it's not like Currituck County struggles in that department as they've averaged .398. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
