Basketball Recap: Sydney Wattles' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Hayden over Rangely

It was a proper cat-fight when Hayden took on Rangely on Friday. The Hayden Tigers took a 44-31 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rangely Panthers. The defeat continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now lost five in a row.

Hayden's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sydney Wattles, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Taryn Schlim, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 boards.

Even though they lost, Hayden smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in eight consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Aubriana Tapia continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Rangely, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 17 boards. Emmeree Wagner was another key player, putting up five points along with six boards and four steals.

Hayden's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 3-4. As for Rangely, the win keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.

Hayden didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 61-25 loss against Plateau Valley on the 11th. As for Rangely, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 69-8 victory against Soroco on the 11th.
