Basketball Recap: Florida Coastal Prep Comes Up Short

Florida Coastal Prep and ABF Academy squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Florida Coastal Prep had to settle for second. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 72-71 to the ABF Academy Cowboys. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Spartans came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while the Cowboys are ranked 131st).

This is the second loss in a row for Florida Coastal Prep and nudges their season record down to 5-10. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.0 points over those games. As for ABF Academy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season.

Florida Coastal Prep does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for ABF Academy, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Southeastern Prep Academy at 4:15 p.m. on Sunday. ABF Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine matchups -- so hopefully Southeastern Prep Academy likes a good challenge.
