Woodgrove dropped their record down to 10-2 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the John Champe Knights by a score of 2-0. The match marked the first time this year in which the Wolverines were not able to get on the board.

Dane Marsh was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits.

On the hitting side, John Hays was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and five RBI. Coltan Dezarn was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

As for John Champe, they pushed their record up to 14-4 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games.

On John Champe's side, Elijah Marshall tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Marshall has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, John Champe saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Josh Wallace, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
