Basketball Recap: Dartavian (Dj) Brown and Ja'caiden Cone Secure Win for Statesboro

Statesboro won the last time they faced Glynn Academy and things went their way on Saturday too. The Statesboro Blue Devils enjoyed a cozy 68-50 win over the Glynn Academy Terrors. Given the Blue Devils' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 70th, while the Terrors are ranked 463rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Statesboro to victory were Ja'Caiden Cone and Dartavian (Dj) Brown. Cone went 8 for 11 to rack up 20 points and five boards, while Brown went 6 of 9 on his way to 15 points and three steals. Cone's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Camdyn Wilkerson was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Statesboro smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive matches.

Glynn Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ahmad Mcintosh, who posted 12 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Lewis, who scored ten points and three steals.

Statesboro's victory bumped their record up to 20-3. As for Glynn Academy, their loss was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-24.

Statesboro does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Glynn Academy, they are taking a road trip to square off against South Effingham at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Glynn Academy is facing South Effingham at the right time seeing as South Effingham is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
