Athens Drive's loss ends three-game winning streak at home

The Athens Drive Jaguars's 19-9 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They were the victim of a rough 60-39 loss at the hands of Cardinal Gibbons on Saturday. Athens Drive has struggled against Cardinal Gibbons recently, as their match on Saturday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

When it comes to explaining why Athens Drive lost, one person who can't be blamed is Quincie Toran. Despite the final result, she scored 13 points along with five assists and three blocks. Toran scored a full 33.3% of Athens Drive's points, the 11th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kianna Gulley, who scored 13 points.

Cardinal Gibbons was led to victory by Miller Kuss and Kaylee Fitzsimmons. Kuss scored nine points, while Fitzsimmons scored 12 points. Those 12 points set a new season-high mark for her. Kathryn Vanburik was another key contributor, scoring six points.

Athens Drive's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-7. As for Cardinal Gibbons, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-6.

Athens Drive will face off against Rolesville at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Rolesville presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Athens Drive in North Carolina (Rolesville is ranked 13th, while Athens Drive is ranked 320th). Cardinal Gibbons and Chapel Hill will face off at 5:30 p.m. on January 3rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Chapel Hill is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
