Basketball Game Preview: Marshall Cardinals vs. Deerfield Demons

Marshall and Deerfield are an even 4-4 against one another since November of 2014, but not for long. The Marshall Cardinals will welcome the Deerfield Demons at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Marshall's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.

Marshall is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Lake Mills just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell to the L-Cats 83-77. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 105th, while the L-Cats are ranked 11th).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Deerfield). They took their game on Friday with ease, bagging an 84-55 win over Parkview. The Demons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three contests by 27 points or more this season.

Marshall's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Deerfield, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.

Marshall came out on top in a nail-biter against Deerfield when the teams last played back in December of 2023, sneaking past 60-57. Does Marshall have another victory up their sleeve, or will Deerfield turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
