Penn State and Georgia were Fortt’s final two choices. In the end, Fortt felt comfortable with the players and the staff at Penn State, Samperi said.
"He just came out and said that was his decision," he said. "He liked the coaches. He liked the players. He liked Penn State."
Fortt registered 118 tackles as a junior. He is currently ranked as the top outside linebacker in the class of 2010 by Tom Lemming. Lemming lists Fortt as the 22nd best player regardless of position.
With the commitment of Fortt, Penn State’s 2010 recruiting class receives a major boost. Fortt will join Canon-McMillan (Canonsburg, Pa.) linebacker Mike Hull and Manheim Central (Manheim, Pa.) pass rusher Dakota Royer on the defensive side of the ball.
The Nittany Lions will continue to pursue Washington (Philadelphia, Pa.) star nose tackle Sharrif Floyd, No. 33 in the 2010 Top 100, to further bolster that side of the ball.
