Basketball Recap: Chevak Gets the Win

Chevak hadn't done well against Scammon Bay recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Chevak Comets sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 50-47 victory over the Scammon Bay Eagles. For the Comets, this counts as revenge for the 60-57 win the Eagles walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Scammon Bay's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was CHARLIE KAGANAK, who went 6 of 8 en route to 12 points. Another player making a difference was DALLAS KAGANAK, who went 6 for 13 on his way to 12 points.

Chevak now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Scammon Bay, they now have a losing record at 1-2.

Chevak didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 51-45 victory against Chaputnguak on the 10th. As for Scammon Bay, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Nelson Island at 4:30 p.m. on January 29th. Scammon Bay has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 1-2 during that stretch of close contests.
