Softball Recap: Memorial's Win Ends Four-Game Losing Streak at Home

There's no place like home for Memorial, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. Everything went their way against the Legacy Leopards on Tuesday as they made off with a 19-4 win. Considering the Mavericks' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Aubrey Martinez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. That run marked the first that she scored this season.

In other batting news, Ella Dawson and Olivia Vanderburg did most of the damage at the plate: Dawson went a perfect 4-for-4 with two triples, four RBI, and two runs, while Vanderburg went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those two triples gave Dawson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Madison Walker, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.

Memorial always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .647. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

Memorial's victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 13-18. As for Legacy, they dropped their record down to 2-14 with the defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Memorial will square off against Wylie at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Legacy, they will take on Cooper at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Leopards' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 6.1 runs per game this season.
