Baseball Game Preview: Cochranton Cardinals vs. Maplewood Tigers

The Cochranton Cardinals will head out on the road to challenge the Maplewood Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Cochranton has given up an average of 7.4 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

It was a proper cat-fight when Cochranton faced off against Saegertown on Thursday. The Cardinals came up short against the Panthers, falling 15-2. Having soared to a lofty 17 runs in the game before, the Cardinals couldn't push the score so high this time.

Cochranton saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andrew Albert, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Maplewood never let their opponents score on Saturday. They blew past Reynolds 11-0. Considering the Tigers have won five matches by more than seven runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

The win made it two in a row for Maplewood and bumps their season record up to 9-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 8 runs in those games. As for Cochranton, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.

Cochranton beat Maplewood 6-1 in their previous meeting back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cardinals since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
