Basketball Recap: Mountain Empire Redhawks vs. Monarch Royals
The Mountain Empire Redhawks scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They breezed by Monarch at home to the tune of 72-26. Winning may never get old, but Mountain Empire sure is getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Mountain Empire's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Corey Vann, who almost dropped a triple-double on 26 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists. Vann hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Sepulveda, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Monarch saw an underclassman step up: Geremiah Lindstrom dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds. Jason Small was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Mountain Empire pushed their record up to 14-6 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.4 points per game. As for Monarch, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mountain Empire and the Lions will face off at 4:30 p.m. on February 1st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
