Basketball Recap: Downtown Doral Comes Up Short + How To Watch

If Downtown Doral was riding high fresh off their 80-20 takedown of Greater Miami Academy on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Dolphins were just a bucket shy of victory on Wednesday and fell 81-80 to the Pinecrest Prep Crocs. The Dolphins were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Crocs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2024.

Downtown Doral's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Diego Velazco, who almost dropped a double-double with 26 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Samuel Salas, who went 8-for-20 to rack up 27 points.

Pinecrest Prep was led to victory by Dwayne Toussaint and Gabriel Guzman. Toussaint dropped a double-double with 24 points and 13 boards, while Guzman posted 33 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Guzman is becoming a predictor of the Crocs' success: when he posts at least 25 points the team is 2-1 (and 2-4 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Fabian Ramos, who had nine points.

Downtown Doral dropped their record down to 2-6 with the defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Pinecrest Prep, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-5.

Coming up, Downtown Doral will venture away from home to square off against iMater Charter at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Pinecrest Prep, they will take on BridgePrep Village Green at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
