Baseball Recap: Lowell Has No Trouble Against Balboa

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against San Mateo, Lowell was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 21-2 margin over the Balboa Buccaneers. The Cardinals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matches by six runs or more this season.

Auden Szalva made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Emerson Sakai was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jhomar Ronquillo, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Lowell has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Balboa, they are on a 14-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-12.

Coming up, Lowell will venture away from home to face off against Lincoln at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Mustangs will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Cardinals surely won't give up without a fight. As for Balboa, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Mission at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Buccaneers are facing the Bears at the right time seeing as the Bears are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
