Softball Recap: Licking Valley Picks Up Eighth Consecutive Victory

Licking Valley entered their tilt with Licking Heights on Monday with seven consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with eight. They put the hurt on the Hornets with a sharp 11-1 victory. Considering the Panthers have won 13 games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Emory Whisner made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Licking Valley let D'Neya Dennis and Alexa Gilliam run wild. Dennis went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Gilliam went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Liz Korns was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Licking Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive contests.

Licking Valley pushed their record up to 19-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Licking Heights, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-11.

Looking ahead, Licking Valley will take on Hilliard Bradley at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Licking Heights, they will face off against Watkins Memorial at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
