Softball Recap: Thursday's Loss Ends Canton's Winning Streak

Canton dropped their record down to 20-7-2 on Thursday, which also ended the team's six-game streak of wins. They fell 7-2 to the Ford Panthers. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Eagles couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Ford, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 18 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games.

For Ford's part, Payton Perez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up eight Ks. Perez has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Lillee Walls was excellent, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Lillian Barraza, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Canton beat Ford by a score of 6-5 on Saturday.
