Baseball Recap: Salem Academy Charter's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Tuesday

Salem Academy Charter dropped their record down to 6-5 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Boston Collegiate Hurricanes. The Navigator were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Hurricanes earlier this season, when they won 5-4.

Salem Academy Charter saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Yuriel Gonzalez Vargas, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI. Brayne Fabian also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

As for Boston Collegiate, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-5. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games.

On Boston Collegiate's side, Joe DiBlasi was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. DiBlasi was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Ryan Alexander was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was PJ Bates, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Salem Academy Charter will face off against Lynn Vo-Tech at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Boston Collegiate, they will challenge South Boston at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Knights have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.78 runs per game on average), something the Hurricanes will no doubt try to take advantage of.
