Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Jeff Exinor and Robert Moore Lead Mcdonogh to Victory

On Saturday, the McDonogh Eagles didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against the Episcopal Maroon, but they still walked away with a 48-43 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.

Leading McDonogh to victory were Robert Moore and Jeff Exinor. Moore posted ten points and five rebounds, while Exinor had 12 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Those five steals gave Exinor a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Carlos Ferguson, who earned seven points and seven boards.

Episcopal's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Simas Kacerauskas, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 boards, and Chuma Achufusi, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 14 points. Kacerauskas is also crushing it when it comes to blocks: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Ben Edmonds, who posted nine points.

McDonogh is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.7 points per game. As for Episcopal, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-3 record this season.

After both having extra time off, McDonogh and West Nottingham will dust off their jerseys to face off against one another at 11:00 a.m. on January 4, 2025. McDonogh is facing West Nottingham at the right time seeing as West Nottingham is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Episcopal, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on St. Mary's Ryken at 2:15 p.m. on January 4, 2025.
