Preview: Fox Creek Predators vs. Strom Thurmond Rebels
Fox Creek has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Strom Thurmond Rebels at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Strom Thurmond took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Fox Creek, who comes in off a win.
Last Friday, Fox Creek beat Horse Creek Academy 44-32. The victory was just what Fox Creek needed coming off of a 70-26 defeat in their prior match.
Fox Creek got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jada Jennings out in front who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Jennings has scored at least a third of Fox Creek's points. Another player making a difference was Maya Kryshtalowych, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 16 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Strom Thurmond unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 41-33 to Silver Bluff. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Strom Thurmond in their matchups with Silver Bluff: they've now lost four in a row.
Katlyn Chinn put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored 14 points along with six assists and six steals. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Lawson Lowe was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Strom Thurmond struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only an offensive rebound. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Silver Bluff pulled down 16 offensive rebounds.
Fox Creek has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-12 record this season. As for Strom Thurmond, their loss dropped their record down to 11-10.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Fox Creek have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 33.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Strom Thurmond struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 23.7 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Fox Creek took a serious blow against Strom Thurmond in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 45-7. Can Fox Creek avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
