Baseball Game Preview: Albemarle Patriots vs. Western Albemarle Warriors

Albemarle is 2-8 against Western Albemarle since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Patriots will host the Warriors at 6:30 p.m. Neither Albemarle nor Western Albemarle posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Albemarle was handed a ten-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Louisa County 2-1. The game was the first time the Patriots have beaten the Lions on their field since April 25, 2019.

Meanwhile, Western Albemarle was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of Charlottesville.

Jack Parkins spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Western Albemarle saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Julian Miles, who went 2-for-4 with one double.

Albemarle is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-13 record this season. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.33 runs across that stretch. As for Western Albemarle, their loss dropped their record down to 10-7.
