Softball Recap: Hillsdale Sets Scoring Season-High Against Woodside

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hillsdale). They put the hurt on the Woodside Wildcats with a sharp 12-2 win on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Fighting Knights considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

Lola Jones made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run and four RBI. Those five hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Taylor O'Mahony was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Sophia Shelton was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases and three runs.

Hillsdale was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .450. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Hillsdale has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-8-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Woodside, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-9.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Hillsdale will challenge rival King's Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Fighting Knights 2.5, the Knights 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Woodside is set to face off against their familiar foe Carlmont at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
