Baseball Recap: Glen Ridge Ridgers vs. Bloomfield Bengals
Glen Ridge had lost four straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 2-5 to make it five. They came up short against the Bloomfield Bengals, falling 14-8. The Ridgers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bengals apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.
Matt Bayne was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one double. He continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. Max Pace also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.
As for Bloomfield, they moved to 3-5 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Bloomfield's side, Noah Attas made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Attas was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Brady Cole was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Miles Jimenez, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Glen Ridge and Bloomfield could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps New Jersey Rankings. The Ridgers (ranked 229th) will meet Verona (ranked 41st) at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Bloomfield will take on Caldwell at 4:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (220 vs. 78).
