Basketball Recap: St. Mary's Comes Up Short

St. Mary lost against Grace Academy back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The St. Mary's Rams had to suffer through a 62-19 loss at the hands of Grace Academy. The contest marked the Rams' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

St. Mary's lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Ty Zimmerhanzel, who posted 11 points. That was a full 57.9% of St. Mary's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's had more than a third of the team's points. Kolbe Barta was another key player, putting up six points.

Grace Academy found their leader in sophomore Canyon Maxwell, who almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine steals. The dominant performance gave Maxwell a new career-high in steals. Ben Leeman also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steals of the season.

St. Mary's dropped their record down to 2-4 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Grace Academy, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 12-3.

St. Mary's has already played their next game (against Memorial Christian Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Grace Academy will venture away from home to square off against Providence Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Grace Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.4 points per game this season.
